Provide client communication and education. Instruct students and oversee implementation of what they are learning on the service.
Performing and/or instructing students about treatments and procedures as prescribed by the rehabilitation clinician
Implementing physical rehabilitation protocols for orthopedic and neurological post-operative patients
Instructing owner at-home exercises
Implementing fitness and weight loss protocols for performance and companion animals
Collecting samples and ordering diagnostic tests for patients
Sedating and monitoring patients when necessary
Participating in teaching rounds with students on various rehabilitation technologies.
Working with the Rehabilitation service to maintain appropriate inventory
Maintaining equipment per developed protocols and oversee housekeeping duties to meet operational standards.
Working with others in the service in the maintenance of rehabilitation equipment (Pool water quality, Underwater Treadmill, Balance Boards and Physiorolls, Therapy Bands, Therapeutic Exercise Equipment).
Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology required.
Veterinary Technician License required.
Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner preferred.
Required Level/type of experience:
Licensed veterinary technician, 1-2 years' experience
Preferred level/type of experience:
Experience as a veterinary technician working with post surgical neurology and orthopedic patients
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
advanced skills of a credentialed rehabilitation technician
Skills to administer and monitor patients under heavy sedation or anesthesia
Knowledge and ability to recognize a veterinary emergency and respond appropriately
Knowledge of canine and feline behavior
Knowledge of common orthopedic and neurologic procedures, treatments and complications
Knowledge of common treatments, drugs and supplements used to treat osteoarthritis
Knowledge of nutritional and caloric requirements in obese canine and feline patients
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to motivate and comfort scared and injured patients; ability to communicate with owners
