Department Description:
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing simple and complex patient rehabilitation including manual therapy techniques, modalities, therapeutic exercise, hydrotherapy, balance training, gait training and other appropriate treatments. Perform student and house officer teaching and didactic curriculum support. Work closely with faculty veterinarians, house officers, students, and physical rehabilitation staff while providing consultation and training on difficult cases.  

Physical Demands:

-Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. 
-Perform treatments in and out of the underwater treadmill. 
-Move recumbent small animals from floor to cages or gurneys, and stand for extended periods of time. 

Work Environment:

-This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. 
-May require working with or around areas with hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases. 
-Work occasional flexible schedule including variable hours/days on short notice, weekends and/or holidays. Availability to work 8 to 10 hour shifts. 
-Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions. 
-Specific hazards of the position are listed in the VMTH Safety Training document and are reviewed with the incumbent annually. 
-Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Background Check Required: 

This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Active License in Physical Therapy. 

-Rehabilitation experience. 

-Experience using a computer to maintain patient records and utilize software programs. 

-Interpersonal skills to interact with clients, the public, staff, and faculty. 

Preferred Qualifications:
-American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification 

-Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) 

-Master of Physical therapy (MPT) 

-Canine Rehabilitation Certification 

-Experience with animal orthotics and prosthetics. 

-Rehabilitation business skills and teaching experience. 

-Certification in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

-Research experience/publications.
