Angell West is seeking a full time Staff Veterinarian – for a newly created physical rehabilitation position at MSPCA/Angell, Waltham campus

Angell West, a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Waltham, MA, has recently acquired an established and highly successful physical therapy practice.  We are in the process of incorporating this physical therapy practice into our current location, with a planned expansion in 2018.

Angell West is one of just a few American Animal Hospital Accredited (AAHA) veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts.  We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century.  Waltham, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston, is ideally situated within easy reach of Metrowest communities and those north and south of Boston, with high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.

Our facility and resources

Our hospital is currently approximately 10,000 square feet and has been recently renovated.  We will be almost doubling our square footage in early 2018 to accommodate our physical therapy practice as well as growth of the hospital.  The current physical therapy practice provides many services, including physical therapy, swim, and massage/reiki.  The physical plant includes an above ground pool (8’x20’) with attached deck and a treadmill.  We will be adding an underwater treadmill, laser, and acupuncture services as we expand the practice.  The hospital is well equipped with 3 surgical suites, ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, laparoscopy, digital radiography, and telemetry.  Labwork and samples are sent twice daily to the fully equipped Angell-Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists.  Lab results are also available in-house at Angell West.

Our People

Our collegial hospital staff includes emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, avian-exotics,  cardiology, neurology, and behavior departments.  The physical therapy practice is currently staffed by one provider that is a licensed physical therapist (MPT) and certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP).  Support staff includes 2 full time and 2 part time canine rehabilitation aides that have extensive experience.  Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job.    Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).

What makes us unique: values-based, non-profit, Fear Free emphasis and more

Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance.  We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area.  Continual improvement is part of our culture, and we are now pursuing Fear Free certification to aid us in providing the best experience possible for our patients.

This position provides a unique opportunity to join a well-known and respected physical therapy practice at a non-corporate referral hospital.  We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking an intimate client-focused setting.  The caseload will come from appointments, in-house referral, and referrals from our community practices.  Demand for physical therapy/rehabilitation in this region far outweighs supply, with most practices carrying a long waitlist.  The veterinarian or physical therapist filling this role will maintain a busy physical therapy/rehabilitation practice, interface with our emergency and specialty hospital to provide recommendations on physical therapy/rehabilitation for their patients, and will help to expand and develop the physical therapy/rehabilitation program.

Boston’s perks

Boston is a world class city with easy access to beaches, oceanfront and the mountains, and there are many cultural opportunities as well as famous Boston sports teams.  Logan International Airport is a major airport allowing easy air travel.  Angell has long enjoyed collaborative work with the nearby esteemed Longwood Medical Community (including the Harvard Medical School network of teaching hospitals).

Benefits

We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule.

We are seeking applicants that are veterinarians (DVM or VMD) and have completed a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP) certificate program or are licensed physical therapists (MPT) and have completed a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP) certificate program Experience with and certification in acupuncture would be a plus.  Interested parties please contact csumner@angell.org.  Please apply on-line at angell.org/careers.
